A Moment of Silence for Slimey

My kids love bugs and little creatures of all kinds. They found a little green caterpiller in our garden under the pepper leaves. It was cute and sort of fuzzy and full of life, not unlike the one you see here. They brought it in and played with it and named it Slimey. Dabriah put it in a cup with some leaves and a few drops of water and they lovingly cared for it throughout the afternoon. I told them to make sure to keep an eye on it and encouraged them to put it back outside soon. I went up to fold some laundry....

About 20 minutes later I came back down to find my 3 oldest kids on the couch glued to PBS kids....and saw Slimey's cup and leaves scattered on the living room floor. Proceeding on to the toy room, I discovered Levi and Deacon sitting on the floor carefully examining green goo that was squished between their fingers, on their shirts, and on the carpet.
Okay, this was just a caterpillar, but I totally gagged.
The older kids heard my "oh no", and came running or I would have spared them the gruesome scene...
For the rest of the day Isaac cried and mourned over Slimey, poor kid. He'd get distracted for a little while and then the memory would hit him and he'd cry some more, sniffling "poor poor Slimey".
And for the rest of the day I sort of couldn't help looking at Levi and Deacon like little murderers.

Oh I am laughing so hard right now I am crying. Isn't it fun to be a mom. All these emotions and lessons in one afternoon. I hope Isaac will be ok.

Hahahaha!! I was laughing pretty hard when I read this! I mean its a very sad event, but the way you wrote it was great! RIP Slimey
PS: Onetime I had a pet caterpiller, it was in a jar and I took good care of it, oneday I woke up and it was missing! It made a cocoon and in like a month I had a butterfly! It was radical!
