Apples, Pumpkins, and Kids

Yesterday we went out to Otis Orchards to get apples from the Apple Guy. His real name is Lloyd. Any of you who live out in that area know him I'm sure, he's the sweetest white haired man, with acres upon acres of apple trees out on Garry Road. His apples are so good that we still drive all the way from Coeur d'Alene to buy them.

We bought a huge box full of Macintosh apples, and another of the Spartans. They're our two favorites, a delicious crisp mix of tart and sweet in every bite, and fresh off the trees.
We brought home pumpkins too.

Yeah, don't tell her to "smile like there's a cute boy across the street", you'll get this look.

Braden pretty much just wanted to taste them all.

The cool t.p. jack o'lanterns the kids made....
They made these spiders too, from painted egg carton cups and pipe cleaners. Deacon doesn't mind them on the wall, but he was absolutely terrified of them up close, poor kid.

Apple crisp recipe :

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups butter
  • 2 quarts peeled, cored and sliced apples (about 6-8 apples)
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, oatmeal, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Cut butter into mixture until crumbly.
  3. Take half of the mixture and pat it into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  4. Cover crumb mixture with apple slices, then sprinkle apple slices with remaining crumb mixture.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes or until apples are tender.

YUM! I am going to try this recipe out today!!!

Cute pictures! I need to be better at getting pics of my kiddos! They just seems to run whenever I get my camera out. So I tend to give up until I start to feel guilty. Maybe I need some irresistible bribs.:)

Going to Otis Orchards to get pumpkins, etc. sounds fun!

Hi Stephani -
I found your blog through the Burgess Family's and am hoping you remember me from your time in the EV Ward :). I just wanted to leave a comment and say how amazing you are! I can't believe how big your girls are getting and was always so impressed with them in Primary. They are so smart as I'm sure the rest of your bunch is :). You seriously are an inspiration and I LOVE that you home school - your set up is awesome. Congrats on your newest addition. Super cute family!

Sorry Your Loveliness, you'll appreciate it more when your future daughter gives you that same look though. ;)
