Last night, out enjoying the warmth of the evening, my boys were playing a game called "Big Bad Wolf and Colored Eggs". It is actually a game that was made up by my siblings and I when we were little, and my brother John taught it to my kids last summer when he was here.
One person is the "big bad wolf", and must plug their ears and be far enough away not to hear as the others secretly discuss what color they each pick for the round. (some that were chosen last night were not so ordinary, like "sparkly gold", "grassy green", and "whip cream white").
Once the colors have been decided, they call the wolf over, and the following is said:
Wolf : "Knock, knock."
Others : "Who's there?"
Wolf : "Big bad wolf."
Others : "What do you want?"
Wolf : "Colored eggs."
Others : "What color?"
Wolf : then guesses colors until he guesses one that has been chosen.
If the wolf guesses your color, you must jump up and run all the way around the yard as the wolf chases after you, and not get tagged, or you will become the new wolf.
In this case, you had to run all the way back to the beginning and jump over the push-broom before the wolf touched you.
A new rule was added last night by my boys. Whoever was tagged by the wolf the least amount of times during the game was declared the winner, and was awarded the blue pool floatie....
And whoever was tagged by the wolf the most times : had to wear "the pink tutu of shame".
Deacon riding "Russell" the killer whale.
My kids name every stuffed animal and distant relation of a stuffed animal that we own.
And of course, in no time at all, the floaties transformed into "bumper bellies", and they jumped at each other like Sumo wrestlers, laughing every time they'd bounce off each other and fall flat on the ground.

You Frostads were some creative kids.
We sure were! (except I had no idea that we made that game up..haha I thought every kid in the neighborhood played it) But that was such a fun game! We would sit on our deck and you had to run around the clothes line poles and back at our house on Wellesley. So fun. :) I'm glad the game lives on.
emily-i think every kid in the neighborhood DID play it! at least every kid on our street. :) those are fond memories.
That sounds like a fun game. I love their imagination and creativity. You are a good mother for encouraging that and encouraging your kids to play.
I just LOVE reading your blog!!!! The imaginations of your kids are just wonderful!!! Love the photos too :)
