Schweitzer

Well, aside from running a kitten ICU, we have been getting out and enjoying summer too.

Two weeks ago we went up to Schweitzer Mountain and stayed in a lovely 4-bedroom condo. Our first evening there it was stormy and rainy, so we stayed in and had a warm dinner, followed by cake with caramel frosting and pecans.

We woke the next morning to a gorgeous sunrise and clear skies, so after breakfast we headed over to the chair lift for a (scary with kids!) ride up the mountain. From the top we hiked our way back down the 2.5 miles or so, picking huckleberries as we spotted them. (And I now fully understand why they cost $30 a gallon, they are work to pick!)
Levi filled his arms with wildflowers for me (aww!), and the kids kept weighing their nature bags down with every single sparkly rock and cool stick they came upon. We saw a few deer along the trail, some squirrels, and even an exciting pile of bear scat...

We were in no hurry and let it take us several hours to make the hike down. Levi complained the last third of the hike that his legs hurt and insisted it would be much smarter for us to turn around, hike back up and take the chair lift down.

None of us wanted to leave when it was time to go home. It was so refreshing to spend a few days breathing in fresh mountain air, taking in breathtaking views as far as the eye could see, and it didn't hurt for me that the condo had a big jetted tub either.

Back home the next day we used those one-of-a-kind huckleberries and made huckleberry cream cheese pie and some huckleberry crumb bars.

Our first night, that stormy sky.

Caramel frosting and pecans.... oh so good.

The condo had 4 levels. Levi asked if we could just please live here.

Isnt Schweitzer great?!? And so close! We went up there about a month ago and stayed at the hotel. We got to ride the chair lift to the top, but we rode it back down too:)We went for a friends wedding so we were all dressed up:) I don't know what it is about that mountain air....ahhh. I definitly want to go back next year and spend more time exploring.
BTW-we saw a moose as soon as we got there! Good thing you didn't run into him!
