October was quite lovely, for October.
We headed to the lake on every sunny Sunday and soaked up those
beautiful rays with beach chairs and a picnic.
The girls just finished their Rhythm
class, and Robin Hood rehearsals are in full-swing. (Performances
will be held as usual in the beautiful Coeur d'Alene KROC center
theater, November 11th-20th.
Last week was the showcase performance for the boys'
breakdance class. Halloween brought all its fun and festivities with
cookie decorating, costumes, harvest parties, school costume parades, trick-or-treating, and Braden and I even stayed home and handed out
candy this year. We had over 250 trick-or-treaters.
Between all that we've just been doing
all the usual little things that make the cogs of life turn.
The kids found a cute little garter snake, but were too scared to pick it up. I got off my comfy chair to prove to them just how lovable the little guy was. Then of course, they all wanted a turn. If wimpy old mom can hold a snake, surely these brave boys could too.
Braden wasn't quite as thrilled about it, and then Dabriah had her turn and little "Snakey" slithered onto her hand, then decided she smelled pretty good and tried to eat her. She screamed and flung the poor guy.
We all got a laugh out of it, and I made sure Snakey didn't have any broken vertebrae, then we let him slither safely back between some rocks.
At Isaac and Levi's breakdance recital :
This is Shanner, their teacher.
The boys did a great job, and here they are just before their final act. They're all dressed up to be zombies since for this one they did Michael Jackson's "Thriller".
Zombie Isaac
Cookie decorating.
This year we did butterscotch ginger cookies instead of the usual sugar cookies. No frosting mess, still super good, and maybe just slightly lower glucose levels during the holiday of sugar-worship....
Okay, I did say slightly...
And the costumes.
Briah indulged me and let me dress her up as a piggy bank.
Lexxi had ideas of her own. She came up with and put together this "apple" costume all on her own, complete with little green caterpillar on her leaf. I only helped her turn her hair into a sticking up "stem" by wrapping fuzzy brown pipe cleaners around it.
Deacon, the sword ninja.
Pirate Levi.
Isaac the nun-chuck ninja.
The girls, about to head out to a costume harvest party with some friends.
Their group won first prize in the costume contest.
And last, just a few things that moved into the kitchen this month, for nostalgic reflection in years to come.
