October 28th, 2010

Lately most days go about like this :

Get up. Drag self out of bed. Shower. Get kids out of bed. Between mascara applications, make sure kids are getting ready. Tell a few to turn off the t.v. with no shoes or socks on yet. Last-minute homework signatures, multiple questions about where backpacks or library books are, plus complaints about clothes that don't fit quite right, and a 7 year old boy who insists he needs to wear deodorant every single day--- okay that's pretty cute actually.

Rush out the door to deliver kids to the bus. Twice. Each time grab the baby, who is toddling excitedly full-speed toward the door at the sound of the words "time to go". Wrap him from head to toe in a warm blanket, leaving the only thing visible his adorable grin, take other child by hand and get to the bus stop. Wait in freezing temperatures, give hugs and watch child(ren) climb aboard, and wave. Head back inside to defrost fingers and clean up after the morning storm. Dishes. Laundry. Messes smeared on counter tops that after several minutes you are finally able to identify as soggy cereal mixed with pencil shavings.

Mark off Briah's assignments and attendance. Scan portfolio assignments 7 times each to finally get the brightness settings correct. Pull little hats and coats over little heads and head to the store for needed items. Run to the bank, to the pet store, and everywhere else. Buy kids Taco Bell for lunch.
Rush home in time for Levi's bus to arrive.

All afternoon help with homework, clean house, finish projects, pull out markers and legos and toys and a hundred other things to entertain little boys.
Welcome Lexx and Isaac home. Have kids draw chores from chore jar, start dinner. Eat. Load up everyone and drop girls off at CYT.
Head back home and ignore empty gas tank light.

Is it bedtime yet?
Little boys bathed, little teeth brushed, warm jammies on, hugs and kisses and tucking in.
The end of another day.

As the house finally turns peaceful and the dishwasher is the only sound calmly swishing downstairs, and 6 sweet little faces lay sleeping soundly, it is much easier to sit and ponder how much I love love love these little people. To realize I truly love that I am busy because of them. To let it hit me how temporary this all really is. It's chaotic, and my brain is frazzled 95% of the time, but I know one day I'll miss all of it.

I just found these pictures on my computer. The kids love to pile around and watch old videos from when they were smaller. Never fails to get us all laughing. Good memories.
